The Darkest Night
Rachel Lofgren
Warm hands of memories, all stained in ink,
I know you want to get away, to run
From your past. You can’t. You’re haunted and hunted. Run –
Despair is on your heels, it chases, it sinks
You, rears its ugly jaws. It sends you to the brink.
You look. So far, you’ll fall so far. So run
Away, away. But don’t let them see you run,
They’ll hunt until you’re gone. You pour the ink,
You watch it run and run down hands gone cold.
The feather in your pocket got you through
The darkest night. You have the strength to hold
The pen and write your life. It’s time to view
The world again with confidence. Be bold,
Be reckless. Let the ink help you to fly.
I know you want to get away, to run
From your past. You can’t. You’re haunted and hunted. Run –
Despair is on your heels, it chases, it sinks
You, rears its ugly jaws. It sends you to the brink.

Away, away. But don’t let them see you run,
They’ll hunt until you’re gone. You pour the ink,
You watch it run and run down hands gone cold.
The feather in your pocket got you through
