Mountain Home in the Autumn Dusk
Wang Wei with translation by James Maybury
After new rain
the mountain air
is bright
and still--
among pines
the moon
gleams,
and a clear spring
flows
over the stones.
In the bamboo
a sudden sound
of washergirls
singing
and playing--
a boat
moves
through the lotus.
I would rest
forever
among
spring flowers,
where a prince's son
himself
could stay.
