Pear Blossom Garden (translation)
Jim Maybury

The pear blossoms are subtly white,

                                                                  the willows everywhere green.

                                                      When the willow catkins fly,

                                                                  flowers fill the city.

                                                      Melancholy and disappointed

                                                                  I watch the last snow

                                                                  on one ridgepole

                                                                  of the East Balustrade.

                                                      In this life

                                                                  we see few things clearly.

                                                                                                            --Su Dongpo
