Sea Rise
Benjamin Shannon
If a single raindrop can raise the sea,
A sea can be born from that single drop.
Hatched from the diamond-cut sleek mirrored pearl,
It spills out streaming into an open mouth.
Downward faced moon kneads tides, splashing away
Nooks, crannies erode the sharp cliff restraints.
Recipe of a lone ingredient,
Infinite raindrops create an ocean.
Now, indivisible from drops of water,
Whether: weather, sweat, kisses, even tears;
Memories build up, spill over reservoir.
Sky and Sea unify, spread vapor wings.
That smallest drop, defies as a puddle,
Crusading tempest, settles as a home.
As a world the sea deepens, grows. It chases
Shadowy coasts and peaks not yet in bloom.
No water will slip through those two cupped hands.
