THE FALL 2012 ISSUE IS COMPLETE!
Letter from the Editor:
Dear Reader,
The process of bringing this issue of Nevermore to print has been an amazing experience. I would like to start
off by giving a huge thanks to the editorial staff and every single one of the contributors. The editors have spent hours working with me to ensure this issue is the absolute best it can be. I honestly could not have done this without such
a magnificent staff helping me along the way. The contributors have yet again shown their devotion to Nevermore by sending in their marvelous work, which can speak for itself in this issue. Without the dedication and passion of these people, Nevermore would be nothing but a wonderful idea.
What I love most about literature is that it has a kind of magnetism, as I imagine many of you can attest to, it pulls you in and once your hooked, there’s no going back. You can’t walk by a bookstore without going in and seeing what their newest bestsellers are. Picking up a new piece of work brings on that little thrill, that spark of excitement while your imagination kicks into overdrive. Before you read the first line, the piece you’re holding has the potential to be absolutely anything. You can be thrown into a world of magic and mythical creatures, you can be transported back in time hundreds of years and shoved into the middle of 18th century English aristocracy, or you can be plopped into a modern day high school with a character trying to make it through their teen years in one piece. Literature has the power to make you cry, to make you laugh, to make you smile, to make you love, and to make you hate. Literature can completely envelop you in a story, making you feel so strongly that you could swear that the piece was written solely for you.
Coming into this semester I was ecstatic to get my shot at creating an issue of Nevermore that was completely it’s own and that would let the reader experience all the things I love about literature. As the deadline got closer and the submissions started rolling in, I knew I got my wish. These works are so unique and when they are brought together they make for a delightful magazine that will take you on an emotional rollercoaster.
Each issue of Nevermore evolves and changes from the last. The Fall 2012 issue is lucky to have received more photography and art submissions than ever before. Watching this magazine progress so much over the time that I have been a part of the staff has been incredible and I am so thankful to have had the opportunity to bring the Fall 2012 issue to print. While being the Editor-In-Chief comes with a certain amount of stress, I would not have given this experience up for the
world. Running Nevermore has been wonderful and I cannot wait to continue my work on this staff under the next Editor-in-Chief.
Nevermore would like to extend a sincere thanks to Brittany Mather and Professor Alan Schulte. As our graphic designer, Brittany worked tirelessly over many weeks with our editorial staff to create the beautiful cover and layout you
see featured in this issue. Thank you so much, Brittany! Professor Alan Schulte came to the magazine after Dr. Dangelantonio fell ill and offered his help to keep this semester’s issue afloat. Without the help of Professor Schulte, this
issue would not have been possible. He came into the project with an open mind, fantastic ideas for the future of the magazine, and endless support for and confidence in both the editorial staff and I. We can’t thank you enough, Professor Schulte. We would also like to thank Franklin Pierce University, Humanities Division, and Professor Jed Donelan for their continued support of this publication. Had it not been for these people, none of this would be possible.
Thanks for reading. I could not be more honored to share these fantastic works with you. Enjoy!
